Asia to Europe swim across the Hellespont strait Turkey · 30 August 2025

Reduce Our Carbon Charitable Foundations sets up and supports community-led sustainable reforestation projects in Central America. Planting trees and providing smokeless stoves is one of the best ways to combat climate change. It is quick and affordable and will buy additional time for humanity to move to a low-carbon economy and reduce CO2 emissions. Each community forms a project group and each participant commits to planting at least 100 trees (With at least 50% being fruit trees). The agroforestry model focus on harnessing all the benefits of trees, this allows communities to use their land sustainably. Upon completion ROC will also help with the installation of a smokeless stove improving health inequalities and using a more sustainable cooking method. With our model, donors can use the carbon sequestered by the trees & stoves to offset their carbon footprint while at the same time providing direct support to families most impacted by deforestation and climate change.

Hi all

For my latest challenge, along with a good friend (and much better swimmer) Simon Breen, I have entered the Hellespont Asia to Europe open water swim. The Hellespont swim is a legendary open water swimming event across the Dardanelles Strait in Turkey, also known as the Hellespont, which is part of the Turkish Strait connecting the Aegean Sea to the Sea of Marmara. The swim, which is roughly 4.5 kilometers (2.8 miles), is a cross-continental journey from Europe to Asia, celebrated as a historical and mythological feat and swimmers come from around the world to take part.

I have self funded, so any sponsorship I raise is all going to Reduce Our Carbon Charitable Foundation (I am a trustee) working in the poorer rural regions of Nicaragua, to provide Smokeless, more fuel efficient stoves, massively improving the quality of life of families that need it most. Reducing carbon, Changing Lives.I have set a target of funding the next 10 family stoves @£175 per stove, £1750 , so any contributions will be gratefully received as well as hard earned.
