Story
On Saturday 6th July, I am walking from Manchester to Sheffield, a distance of roughly 48 miles, to raise money for CRESST. The work of CRESST is incredibly important in an era where destructive conflict is so widespread, at international, local, and personal levels. By supporting young people in “doing conflict well”, CRESST gives them the tools for leading lives of greater fulfilment and purpose that will be of benefit to them and wider society.
My route takes me from the centre of Manchester out along canals to New Mills; then into Derbyshire along Rushup Edge. After going over the top of Mam Tor and along the valley, I drop down to follow the River Derwent to the Longshaw Estate. From there, I climb up over Houndkirk Moor, down into the Porter Valley, and with one final happy climb to reach the Greystones Pub! The route is based on an original version by Josh Allen, which he describes here (https://walkmidlands.co.uk/2022/04/10/three-day-walk-from-sheffield-to-manchester/).
I’m involved with CRESST on a number of levels; I was previously a trustee; I collaborate with Rob in supervising a PhD student; and my son is a peer mediator himself! I therefore know how impactful the work of CRESST can be, and the difference it can make to the young people involved. They will be more confident; more emotionally aware; and more peace-full, in how they carry themselves and interact with others. I’m therefore very proud to be doing this for CRESST, and hope you will be able to join me in supporting their work.
