Story
Project Trust - Race Across the World 2026
Twenty-seven years ago, as a fresh-faced 18 year old, Project Trust gave me an experience that changed the course of my life.
In 1999, I travelled to Khampaeng Phet, Thailand, for a year-long voluntary placement in a Thai secondary school. The first photo is my first day, being introduced to the entire school with incredibly limited Thai.
Over the next year, I taught English, lived in the local community, ran races, spent time as a novice monk and learned more than I could ever have imagined. Looking back from where I am now, Project Trust obviously knew more about me than I did at the time.
Project Trust made it all possible through its placement programme, in-country support, travel arrangements, pre-placement training and post-placement debrief.
When I volunteered, participants needed to raise £3,000 to take part. Today, the cost is significantly higher, creating a greater barrier for many young people who could benefit enormously from the experience.
That's why I'm currently taking part in a Race Across the World challenge to help more young people access the same life-changing opportunity. Experiences like these develop independence, resilience, cultural understanding and a sense of global citizenship that lasts a lifetime.
Every donation, large or small, will help current and future volunteers access opportunities that can genuinely change lives.
