Story

A life is lost to suicide every 11 minutes in the United States. Yet most Americans are unaware that suicide affects millions of people every year.

Family Services’ Samaritans program works tirelessly to address this major public health concern and prevent suicide among youth and adults in your community.

This year, I am walking to remember two beloved family members who tragically passed away by suicide (Michael Newman & Matthew Newman).

Mike and Matt's stories remind us of the urgent need for awareness and support in our communities.

On Saturday, October 18, 2025, Family Services will host its 9th annual Walk for Hope to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention. A major goal of this event is to show support for the families and friends of the more than 49,000 Americans who die by suicide each year and the 20 million people who suffer from depression annually.

Together, we can create a community of hope, healing, and resilience. I invite you to join me in this important effort by contributing to my fundraising goal of $500. Your support will help provide vital resources for those in need and foster a culture of understanding and compassion. Thank you!
