Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Lt John Thornton RM was an Air Cadet like myself who was named top student on his Junior Leaders course. He had set his sights on becoming a Royal Marines officer at age 13 and commissioned in August 2004 after 15 gruelling months of young officer training.
He served with distinction during Op HERRICK 7 and was tragically killed 2 weeks before he was due to come home. The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) is set up by his parents Linda and Peter in his honour with the objective of helping young people 'climb as high as they dream', and enabling them achieve their ambitions.
Depending on logistics, my fundraiser will either be held at my Air Cadets Squadron on our simulator with my fellow cadets getting involved, or the event will be livestreamed from my room, and I will use my flight sim on my computer.
I have set myself a challenging fundraiser in the spirit of the arduous training on Air Cadet Junior Leaders. I will fly virtually between MoD Boscombe Down in Salisbury to RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland, stopping at every active RAF flying base in between. This will be an endurance flight, completed in a single session on flight simulator.
Donating will help to carry on to immortalise Lt Thornton's legacy and allow the charity to continue supporting and improving the lives of young people. Anything you can give is highly appreciated and will make a real difference to a young person's future!
