London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·

Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund is the only national charity dedicated solely to beating pancreatic cancer through research. Survival rates are low, so new research is vital. In the past, this cancer received little attention. With your help, we can change this so more people beat pancreatic cancer.

Story

"In the UK in 2024, 50% of people diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer are still dying within 3 months. This figure has not changed in over 50 years." Pancreatic Cancer UK.

My later father Brian Jefferson, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April 2007 and four weeks later died. It also took my partner Julie's mum Dorothy, so this cause is very close to both our hearts.

I want to raise both awareness and also money for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, as they do so much good work on early detection and cures for this dreadful cancer.

Key Facts

- pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of the common cancers

- only around 7% of those diagnosed survive beyond 5 years

- the average survival time from diagnosis is 6 – 9 months

- despite these statistics, research into pancreatic cancer has been underfunded for decades

I have ran and completed the London 2023 marathon in aid of Oxfam, in memory of my late mother Vera Jefferson and raised over £3000, so let's see if I can go better in 2024!

Please give generously for this great charity!

Thanks

Tim 😊!
