Story
I'm taking part in The Winter Spine event which starts on 11th January and will see me travel the entire length of the Pennine Way, non-stop, from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm in Scotland.
It takes in some of the roughest, wildest and most remote terrain that this country can offer, across bogs, moors and mountains, come rain, wind, snow and ice, all carrying a 10kg backpack. It is known as Britain's most brutal race for a reason!
The route will take me several days to complete, with a final cutoff the following Sunday 18th Jan.
I'd like people to support me by supporting a fantastic local charity that is used by schools and organisations in the area, including a group that my wife takes from her school. Her children look forward to their sessions, growing in confidence and developing their physical skills.
Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Eden Group was formed in 1980 and is based at Rookin House Equestrian and Activity Centre, Troutbeck near Penrith, Cumbria. Eden RDA has been transforming the lives of people with disabilities throughout Eden and Cumbria, introducing them to activities that improve physical and mental well-being. The riders join for enjoyment, challenge, friendship, laughter and achievement as well as a degree of independence. It has also been recognised that there are medical advantages resulting in riders being more relaxed and supple.
At the moment we work with Children and Adults from The North Lakes School, Ullswater Community College, Edington Day Centre, Warcop Primary School, and Aspire 17. We meet every Thursday from the end of February to July and September to November.
