Im in Folkestone and getting ready for the swim, hopefully tomorrow. I'm ready, excited and can't wait to get on our way. At 13, I'm taking part in one of the biggest challenges of my life so far - swimming the English Channel as part of a six person relay team.

For the last year our lives have revolved around swimming, early mornings, late nights, weekends, swim camps and dry land training. I've swam in outdoor Lido's, designated lakes, at Liverpool docks where the jellyfish don't sting, and at Dover, where they definitely do and in Cheadle pool, training whenever I can. Ice baths are part of my daily routine and have completed many swims in the winter months, before school where the water temperature was just a single figure.

Nikki Pope our inspirational coach, who makes the difficult seem easy and the impossible happen, told me one day, that there is 'no children's Channel swim'.

We are all under the same guidance and strict rules any adult Channel swimmer would be, because really the Channel isn't set up for kids, yet here we are doing it, but not only that, the Mencap Marvels have beaten world records crossing the Channel, and every single swim undertaken, has been successful.

This is because of the programme we follow and the training, it's tough - believe me, and having the heart of a Channel swimmer, this bit is vital. We have navigated obstacles and dealt with set backs, had the amazing highs and experienced pretty low, lows, but keep pushing on. Whatever comes our way, we are thinking about France and getting there.

I have completed a 2 hour continuous swim at less than 15.4 degrees at Dover, alongside tankers, jellyfish and my mentor - Ed, who swam with me, pushed me on and helped me to achieve this - thank you Ed.

When we cross the Channel, in our boat, the aptly named 'Masterpeice' we will start out at 1am, where I will be in just trunks, and I won't be forgetting the Vaseline, chaffing is real.

The funds we raise can provide whatever is needed for people who navigate learning difficulties and who knows where this could lead for these families who may need this, more than any of us could imagine.
