Story

Hi, welcome to our page, we are Margôt, Jo, Jen, Alan, Mandy, Stan and Britt. And this June we’re cycling to Amsterdam… And back again! We’re raising money for Move Against Cancer.

None of us are new to taking on a physical challenge but this one is all about celebrating our ability to get outside and get active.

2025 was a tough year and offers some inspiration behind our choice of charity. Here’s the back story from Britt:

In the Summer 2025 I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, in the midst of starting a new job and planning a wedding, it was a major curveball. The uncertainty and unsettling process to go from initial scan to diagnosis was quite the ride, and in fact getting the diagnosis was a relief to final know what we were dealing with. During that uncertain period me and my, at the time, fiancé made the decision to move; we ran, we walked, we swam, we moved every day and we devised a tag line that was to keep us sane for the next 6 months, 3km A Day Until Lymphoma Goes Away. I started my job on 6th August, I started Chemo on 22nd August, we got married on 6th September and I finished chemo on the 5th November. When you’re in it, you live it, but in retrospect it was the wildest time and it was undeniably hard. We were overwhelmed with all the love and support of our friends and family. Moving every day was our anchor, it kept us grounded, got us outside and gave us a focus.

This is why this Summer we want to move again, this time on bikes and slightly longer than 3km a day! As a group of 6 amateur cyclists and Mandy in the support van, We’re going to cycle from York to Amsterdam over two days, before cycling two days back. The celebration of being able to move and hopefully raise some money for Move Against Cancer who as well as supporting young people going through cancer to keep active, support everyone going through and living beyond cancer to keep active. This year is Move Against Cancer’s 10th anniversary and to celebrate their campaigning to encourage people to ‘Move More Together’.

If you can, please consider making a donation, all money raised goes directly to the charity, the riders are funding their own expenses. Thank you!
