When Wilfred was born 9 months ago, he had a brief stint in intensive care (NICU) at St. Michael’s Hospital in Bristol. He came home after a week but it was a real eye opener to some of the challenging situations families are facing.

St Michael’s NICU covers the whole of the South West and welcomes new born babies with a variety of life-threatening and life-changing issues. The support and treatment provided by the nurses, surgeons and doctors is incredible and overwhelming.So over whelming that when we were there I decided to do what ever small thing I could do to support the work they do there. 

That’s where Cots for Tots comes in. Wilfred received his first book and a handmade blanket from one of the nurses through the charity but they provide so much more to other families. The charity provide family accommodation so families can stay within minutes of their baby, fund state of the art equipment to NICU and provide music therapy to those on the unit.

The little thing I decided to do was a series of increasingly difficult challenges: last year it was a half marathon. This year it’s the Bristol Triathlon over an Olympic distance in June and the Lisbon marathon in October.

I have never done either of these events before and so both will be unique challenges in themselves. Together they make for a very busy 6 months of training (and looking after Wilfred).

Any amount of money can make a huge difference to children and families at a time when they need help the most.
