Story

In 2020, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed Lemierre disease, a rare complication of bacterial pharyngitis/tonsillitis with which in turn developed into sepsis—a condition I had heard of but never fully understood until it nearly took my life. I lost 30lbs in a month, and had to have treatment for damaged lungs and kidney, as it started to attack vital organs in my body.

Sepsis is a life-threatening response to an infection that can strike anyone, at any time, and without warning. Thankfully, I received the medical care I needed from the NHS in time, but not everyone is as fortunate. Now I have had it, I hear about more requently. I see it more on social media, I know friends of friends that have had, even my nan, Valerie, had it, as sepsis claimed her life during the later stages of her operation.

Almost 4 years down the line, 2 half marathons run, I've now decided its time run the Big London Half to raise as much money and awareness as we possibly can. Therefore, on April 8, 2024, I will be running the Tommy's Big London Half Marathon in support of Sepsis UK.

The money raised through this fundraiser will directly support Sepsis UK’s vital work. It will help fund essential research aimed at improving early detection and treatment, ensuring that more lives can be saved. It will also go towards education and awareness campaigns, so that more people understand the signs of sepsis and can seek help before it’s too late. Finally, your donations will provide crucial support for those who have been affected by sepsis, offering them the resources and care they need during their recovery.

By donating to this cause, you're not just supporting me in this run; you're making a real difference in the fight against sepsis. Every penny raised brings us closer to a world where sepsis is better understood, better treated, and more lives are saved. Thank you for your generosity and support. Together, we can make a difference.
