About the historical venue

The Tate Institute, located at 1 Wythes Road in the Royal Docks area of Silvertown, East London, is a building of considerable historical and cultural significance. Established in 1887, the Tate Institute was designed as a secular social venue, intended as a support hub for workers offering opportunities for personal and community development.

For 110 years, it was an incredibly important community space, hosting events, housing, and a wide range of social support, before the building started to fall into disrepair in the late 1990s. In 2024, ReSpace secured a lease to regenerate the building, turning it into a multi-use, 21st-century community facility, hosting an abundance of cultural programming, art and music studios, a grassroots business hub, a recycling facility, and much more.
