Story

Help me raise money for Worthing Hospital Critical Care Unit 🙏🏼

Growing up my dad taught me a lot...

but one thing he could never really teach me was how to be good at pool. Whilst he was a county cup player I was an enthusiastic second best. We first played together when I was three or four, and many weekends after that - ten years later I beat him in earnest for the first time. Some slog - but the time spent together was always worth it, and I've enjoyed the game ever since.

When I was 18 and some way in between chapters of my life though, everything changed. I got a call in the middle of the night that my dad had suffered a major stroke. I rushed to the hospital and there I stayed basically every hour of the day for the next week and a half.

As much as we willed things to go differently and stuck by his side with music playing, swapping stories; he never really regained consciousness beyond a mumble and at the age of 50 on February 6th 2012 we lost him.

Everything changed, and a swarm of emotions never really went away. Much in life has changed since, but when I reflect on the long days we spent in the hospital by his side the care and dignity afforded to my dad right at the end is hard to forget.

And so...

on what would have been his 65th birthday - the 12th of November this year - I'm taking it all back to the early days.

The pool table at my office, 9am, a full rack - I break them up and there I stay, on my feet until I've potted ONE THOUSAND legal shots.

On the day there may be extra goals, challenges and so on, but for now I'd love your help to raise funds for the Critical Care Unit at Worthing Hospital, who helped me and my family back in 2012 and have done again multiple times since; they may have even done something for someone close to you.

Impossible to say what this will really need, but the best guess is anywhere up to fourteen hours of concentration, and maybe a little luck - I'd be ecstatic if in return I managed to turn in a Keith Chegwin style cheque to the good people at the CCU for £1000. Thousand pound for a thousand pots? Seems a good deal to me.

Please dig deep, I really do appreciate it and let's see what lasting impact we can manage in memory of the original (and possibly the best) Tom Knox :D
