On Saturday, 19th September, I will take on a truly gruelling endurance challenge: an iron-distance triathlon repeated three times. That means a 7.2-mile swim, a 348-mile bike ride, and a 77-mile run. The event takes place in Snowdonia, Wales, with a swim in Lake Padarn, a bike course featuring over 9,700 metres of elevation—more than the height of Everest—and a run that includes summiting Snowdon itself all in under 61 hours.
Why am I doing this?
Last year, my 13-year-old son Jake was diagnosed with Autism and Tourette’s syndrome. His journey has been a rollercoaster. Life is incredibly challenging for him—school is tough, daily routines can be overwhelming, and every day brings new obstacles.
I signed up for this event to show him something important: that even when life feels impossibly hard, if we keep moving forward—one step at a time—we can reach places we never thought we could. When things get frightening or uncertain, that’s exactly when we need to stand tall, stay strong, and be ourselves..
