Story

A few years ago on a family holiday in Wales my then nine month old daughter got really sick, really fast.

We called the site first aiders at the holiday resort and they said we needed to take her to A &E right away.

On arrival at A&E we were immediately transferred to see a doctor who informed us she had acute mastoiditis.

Mastoiditis is a serious bacterial infection in the mastoid bone behind the ear and very close to the brain.

Her health declined and we were transferred to Cardiff Hospital to meet with specialists.

Thankfully after four days and hearing a lot of surgeons and nurses having very serious conversations the specialists were able to find an antibiotic that worked.

We ended up in a hospital 150miles away from home for five nights. This is where we were introduced to Ronald McDonald.

It felt like a god send and this is why I was so passionate about wanting to run for them, we can never repay them for the care and ease they provided us during one of the most stressful times of our lives.

Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with children having treatment in hospital.

Our Houses offer much more than just a place to stay; they provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services. This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain.

We help over 6,000 families each year and now, more than ever, we need your support. Thank you.
