Tom's fundraiser for ME Association

Tom Hancock is raising money for ME Association

Sheffield Mutual Sheffield Half Marathon 2026 · 29 March 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.

Story

Official Explanation of ME below, but in short, you wake up after 10 hours of sleep feeling like you’ve run a marathon. And then you need to go about ‘normal’ life as if you’re not exhausted. You might do part time work, or half days at school/college, all whilst looking perfectly healthy which can bring about judgement from others. You may need to spend 3 days ‘charging up’ for an event that only lasts hours.

And Doctors don’t know the cure. It’s barely researched due to a lack of funding due to a lack of understanding due to a lack of exposure. It’s not just ‘being tired’ and I feel for everyone who suffers from it.

Please help us to support people with ME and their families.

ME (Myalgic Encephalopathy), or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, blights the lives of over 400,000 people in the UK today. The smallest exertion can floor them; their joints and muscles ache unbearably; restful sleep eludes them; and ‘brain fog’ clouds their thinking. It changes lives drastically – disrupting study; making work impossible; and straining family relations to breaking point. Many sufferers cannot leave their homes. There is no known cure.

Please help us to help them.
