I am taking part in the Paris - Brest - Paris 1200km cycle event in August 2023.

The first event was in 1891, it takes place every four years and this is the 27th edition. It is the oldest organised cycle event in the world.

Despite the inevitable soreness that will occur (!), it is a privilege to be taking part.

The event has to be completed within a 90 hour time limit and to qualify I have completed other rides of 1500, 600, 400, 300 and 200 km.

Now the important bit.........

The Ship Centre Cafe in Rainham is a wonderful place. It is run by volunteers and offers support, friendship, advice and hot, home cooked food, to those who are hungry or just need someone to talk to.

I found the Ship Centre almost by accident when I called in for a cup of tea. I was bowled over by the friendly staff and the good work that they do. In the heart of the community, they provide a welcoming place that is clearly treasured and valued by all those that use it.
