Tom's fundraiser for rare people - the research charity

Tom Hutchinson is raising money for rare people - the research charity

The Altra Brighton Half Marathon 2026 · 1 March 2026 ·

Rare People – The Research Charity brings hope to those affected by rare genetic neurodevelopmental conditions — illnesses so uncommon that most are told there’s no chance of a treatment. The first of many studies we will fund, is looking at a potential treatment for DeSanto-Shinawi Syndrome

Story

Emma and I are running the Brighton Half Marathon on the 1st March to raise funds for ‘Rare People’. Our daughter, Lil’Lottie has a rare genetic syndrome, DDX3X, linked to epilepsy and learning difficulties. Gene therapy is beginning to make breakthroughs for children with rare genetic syndromes and the charity was set up by my friend and colleague, Dr Rob Galloway, to link research to real change for affected children.
