Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In November, I will be completing a solo walk along the 87 mile long national trail, The Ridgeway, which runs from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Overton Hill in Wiltshire.
What on earth for? In short, a cause close to my heart and the hearts of many, many people. Dementia is possibly the greatest public health challenge society faces today. It is one I first came into contact with several years ago, when my dear Nan was living with Alzheimer’s. Not knowing much about the disease then, it shocked me to see the non-recognition in Nan’s eyes when I went to visit her, and to hear her ask my Mum, “And who’s this nice young man?” Nan lived for several years with Alzheimer’s, passing away in 2022 shortly after her 90th birthday.
I now see people living with dementia more or less daily as part of my job, and also through my voluntary work with the Bristol Dementia Action Alliance (BDAA), the wonderful local charity I am raising funds for. Being a small, local, growing charity - and one with which I continue to have first-hand experience - I offer you every assurance that the money you give will truly have a meaningful impact on the frontline of dementia support in the city of Bristol. You will literally be supporting your neighbours living with dementia as well as their carers. BDAA leads dementia awareness sessions and workshops, carer’s groups, and several memory cafes across Bristol - which give family members caring for a loved one a space to take a step back from their caring duties as well as providing valuable social connection for people living with dementia.
