Story
I was the recipient of a stem cell transplant in May of 2023 after 2 years of failed chemotherapies, radiotherapy and immunotherapies. Without the courage and kindness of Steve, my donor, I would no longer be here.
Steve and I will run this marathon together. We will show the world the power of Stem Cell Transplants and that recovery from the lowest lows is possible, and that nothing can stop us from reaching our goals.
Anthony Nolan is a brilliant cause to donate for, and their work around stem cell research and transplants have given myself, and thousands of others, a chance to live.
Stem cells are fascinating, and their potential is limitless.
When I look back at where I was during cancer treatments, I could never have envisioned myself in the position I am in today. I was running out of options and my treatments were not working, and finally one did just enough and the donated stem cells finished it off.
The monetary donations are important and I am eternally grateful for anything you can give. However, there is an even bigger donation you can make and it's completely free: Get yourself swabbed, join the stem cell register, potentially save someone's life and donate your cells (if you are a match). Without the kindness and bravery of those who join the register, people like myself may not get that 2nd chance. Be a hero.
I will run in memory of Adam Lacy, Robbie Lloyd, Uncle John and all the brave souls who have lived with cancer. You will never be forgotten.
