Tom Powdrill is raising money for Labour Behind the Label

Legging it for labour - Suffolk Coastal Path Ultra · 13 September 2025

Labour Behind the Label believes that no-one should live in poverty for the price of a cheap t-shirt. That a living wage is a basic human right, as is working without fear for your life. We are committed to making these ideals a reality in the garment industry.

Story

I've been involved in pushing for decent pay and conditions for workers for most of my adult life.

Too often the labour that goes into everyday products - like clothing - is invisible and unrewarded. If you can buy an item of clothing for a few quid are the workers involved in producing it really getting their fair share?

Labour Behind The Label is a great organisation that advocates on behalf of garment workers and I'm very pleased to be a supporter of theirs.

I have a bit of family history here as my dad's parents worked in shoe manufacturing in Leicester - a city where Labour Behind The Label has exposed modern sweatshops.

This years I'm attempting my second ultramarathon - a 50km run along the Suffolk coast. This is also an area that has a lot of history for me - I grew up in Ipswich and have spent a lot of time in places like Aldeburgh, Walberswick and Southwold.

So I'm using this as an opportunity to raise some money for a very good cause. Any contribution would be appreciated!
