Tom's fundraiser for Taxi Charity For Military Veterans

Tom Score is raising money for Taxi Charity For Military Veterans

Walking a 100 miles from the Menin Gate at Ypres to Thiepval Memorial at the Somme

The Taxi Charity For Military Veterans (formerly known as the London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled) was formed in Fulham in 1948. Its object then was to help war veterans, in their homes and hospitals, throughout London and the home counties, by providing entertainment, outings and much needed specialised equipment. Our aim now is simple: to work for the benefit, comfort and enjoyment of military veterans, to the best of our ability. For our annual Worthing outing, we now collect veterans from all over London, including the Royal Hospital Chelsea and other Veterans' Homes, as well as those who still live in their own homes. This amounts to over 300 ex-service men and women and over 130 taxis. In order to fund these outings, we seek donations from the general public and organisations, and we rely on volunteer London licensed taxi drivers to provide their taxis and time for free.

Story

Walking 100 Miles Across the Western Front for Our Veterans

This July, I'll be walking 100 miles across the battlefields of the Western Front to raise money for the Taxi Charity for Military Veterans – an incredible charity that gives so much to those who have given everything for us.

The Taxi Charity is run by volunteer London licensed taxi drivers who give up their own time to transport military veterans to commemorations, reunions and remembrance events in the UK and overseas. These trips allow veterans to revisit places that shaped their lives, honour fallen comrades, share their stories with younger generations and receive the recognition they deserve. None of this would be possible without donations.

Thanks to the Taxi Charity, I've had the privilege of meeting WWII veterans and veterans from more recent conflicts. Hearing their experiences first-hand has been inspiring and humbling. Their courage and sacrifice should never be forgotten, and this walk is my way of giving something back. On 20 July, I'll set off from the Menin Gate in Ypres, walking 100 miles across some of the most historic and poignant battlefields of the First World War. Ten days later, on 30 July, I'll finish at the Thiepval Memorial on the Somme.

Along the way I'll visit countless cemeteries and memorials, following in the footsteps of those who fought and fell. My route will take me through places forever etched into military history, including Messines Ridge, Fromelles, Rue du Bois, Loos, Vimy Ridge and Arras.

Every mile will be a reminder of the sacrifices made by so many, and every donation – no matter how large or small – will help the Taxi Charity continue its vital work supporting military veterans.

If you're able to support me, I'd be incredibly grateful. Your donation will help ensure more veterans can attend the commemorations that mean so much to them, preserving their stories and honouring their service for generations to come.

Thank you for helping me make every mile count.
