The Friends exist to support the work of the National Health Services based at The Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital and the Danesbury Neurological Centre in Welwyn, Hertfordshire. These two hospitals together provide support and specialist therapy for patients having a wide range of debilitating conditions.

Story

We’re New Horizon CrossFit, a gym based in Welwyn-Hatfield. One of our members wife’s Jane James was taken to hospital this year due to a burst Aneurysm in the brain. This is her story;

On the 11th of November Jane was rushed to Addenbrookes hospital for emergency brain surgery due to a burst aneurysm. The surgery was a success but a few days later Jane contracted meningitis. Following 2 weeks of antibiotics and the meningitis was wiped out, Jane was then transferred to Lister hospital in Stevanage for a further 2 weeks to recover and then start her rehabilitation assessments. Jane bounced back well and the occupational team agreed to transfer to a 5 week rehabilitation program at Danesbury Neurological centre, where she is now. Janes therapy is focused on the cerebellar area of the brain that was impacted; coordination, movement, balance (all areas which will need to be reprogrammed over time) and through this therapy she will be able to control her symptoms such as dizziness, nausea.

We have been blown away by the care, environment, staff and support already to shown to Jane in a few days at Danesbury Neurological centre and the volunteers we have already met which represent the Friends of Danesbury charity.

A few of our members wanted to get together and do something to support Jane and her husband Ryan. So on the 17th of January we’re taking on an ultra Marathon in the gym. Please donate if you can
