🏃♂️ From Half to Full Marathon: Running for Refuweegee! 💙
After completing my first-ever half marathon at the AJ Bell Great Scottish Run (just over 1h 40mins) in October 2024—where I raised over £600 for Refugee Education UK—I’m now taking on an even bigger challenge. On 25 May 2025, I’ll be running the Edinburgh Marathon, this time to support Glasgow Refuweegee!
Why This Matters 🏡💙
Refuweegee is an incredible charity that provides a warm Glasgow welcome to refugees and asylum seekers, ensuring they have the essentials, support, and sense of belonging they need. From welcome packs and emergency provisions to community events and advocacy, they do vital work to help people rebuild their lives. (Find out more at: www.refuweegee.co.uk)
The Journey So Far 🏋️♂️🔥
Since my half marathon, I’ve been training harder than ever, focusing on high-intensity and strength conditioning at Fenix Fitness, and I recently completed my first Hyrox Competition at Hyrox Glasgow (mixed doubles) in just over 1h29m! 💪🏽
Alongside structured training, I’ve been running regular ParkRuns on Saturdays, keeping my endurance sharp while enjoying the running community. Now, it’s time to push further and tackle 42.2km of endurance, resilience, and purpose!
Why This Is Personal
As a migrant, educator, and a coordinator of student placements in various community centres in Glasgow as well as a member of RefugEAP and the University of Strathclyde’s University of Sanctuary Working Group, I work to support refugee students in accessing education. Whether through teaching, mentoring, or advocacy, I believe education and inclusion should be for everyone. Running this marathon is another way to stand in solidarity and raise much-needed funds.
How You Can Help 💙
By supporting my marathon journey, you’ll be making a real impact on the lives of displaced people in Glasgow. Every donation helps Refuweegee continue their crucial work, ensuring that refugees are welcomed with dignity, community, and opportunity.
