Tom's Skydive for British Heart Foundation

Thomas Wilson is raising money for British Heart Foundation

A Skydive over Key West · 15 October 2025

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

On 15th October 2025 I'm jumping out of a plane to get my heart going in aid of raising money for the British Heart Foundation. The fear even typing that is unreal. However the fear of loved ones no longer around is even greater!

Back in 2014, we suddenly lost my Nan to a heart attack. A mere 8 months later, my Dad also suffered a heart attack. Within the next 6 years, my Uncle, Grandad and other Nan faced the same fate, resulting in 5 heart attacks in under 7 years. Tragically, three had their lives taken far too early, with absolutely no warning signs beforehand. Thankfully, those who survived managed to receive lifesaving surgery from the wonderful team at Southampton General Hospital.

However, these life-saving surgeries are only possible thanks to the scientists who work tirelessly to find groundbreaking treatments for heart and circulatory diseases. Every year, 26% of all passings in the UK are linked to these conditions. The British Heart Foundation is the largest funder in the UK for research aimed at reducing this alarming statistic. Since the 1960s, they have helped cut the yearly number of deaths from heart conditions in half solely due to research and treatments funded by generous supporters like us.

Recently, a colleague mentioned an upcoming skydive he had booked. My immediate response was "ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE WOULD I DO THAT!" But then I found myself joking with a friend about what we could do on an upcoming holiday and suggested... "How about we do a Skydive!" To my surprise, her excitement meant I couldn't back out. And this has really backfired big time! Before I knew it, we were planning our skydive.

So on October 15th, 2025, during a cruise port call in Key West Florida, Myself and Emily will be taking off on a plane that we won't be landing on! While I'm not sure jumping out of a plane is my idea of a perfect relaxing day out— I do scream louder than a child on roller coasters!—I feel it's only right that I face this fear for such an important cause. If jumping out of a plane meant another day with a loved one who's passed away I would jump in a heart beat.

By participating in this skydive for the British Heart Foundation, I'm hoping to raise £1,000 to support their vital work. It's only thanks to contributions from people like you that they can create new treatments and discover new cures. Every day spent researching can potentially save another life; every life saved makes everything worthwhile.

Please consider donating whatever you can to help me reach my target and support this deserving charity. Thank you!
