Story
My name's Tom, and I live in Spain. Over the last few years, I've spent a lot of time doing long adventures across the country. Last year I travelled from the north of Spain to the south on a skateboard. Along the way, my dad surprised me in Seville completely out of the blue.
It was a moment I'll remember forever.
A few weeks later, after Christmas 2024, my dad started having seizures. Not long after that, he was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain tumour.
He faced everything with an incredible amount of strength, humour and dignity, and so did the rest of my family. Watching someone you love go through something like this changes the way you see the world. It changes what matters.
On July 5, 2026, my dad lost his battle.
In July 2026, I set off to walk the GR11, the Spanish Pyrenean crossing, from east to west. Around 850 kilometres across the full length of the mountains, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. Burning sun in the lower sections, freezing nights at altitude, and whatever storms the mountains decide to throw at me. I'm filming the whole thing so you can follow along.
I'm doing this in his memory, and this journey is dedicated to him because.
My dad shaped so much of who I am. He taught me how to carry myself through life, how to treat people, how to stay grounded, and how to keep going when things get difficult. A lot of the confidence I've had to take risks, travel, and build my own path came from him.
So this is my way of saying thank you.
I love you, Dad, you'll always be my hero.
If this journey can also raise some money or awareness for brain tumour research along the way, that would mean more than I can say. Glioblastoma is one of the most aggressive forms of brain cancer, and despite advances in treatment, outcomes remain incredibly poor for many families facing it.
