Story

Hello, thank you so much for visiting my just giving page helping to raise money for the wonderful charity St Catherine's Hospice in Preston. A charity that is very close to my heart because of the incredible work they do helping to give patients the best quality end of life care. A job that can be very difficult and emotional but that plays such a vital role in the lives of the families who are effected.

My grannie, Helen Young, died on 11th July 2019 after a short battle with a horrible illness. She was 72. The events of that period happened so quickly that it was not until I got to St.Catherine's hospice that I was able to spend time with her and attempt to make peace with the news that she probably would not have long left with us.

The choice to go and see someone at the end of their life is a tough one to make, especially when I had only ever known my grannie as a healthy individual. The onset of her illness was so quick. But I am so glad I got to go and see her at St.Catherine's, a space that is so peaceful, calm and caring. They allowed me the time to say goodbye.

St.Catherine's is such an incredible charity, that although the news was devastating and losing a grandparent at a relatively young age feels unfair, I can not thank St Catherine's enough for the work they did helping to care for my grannie at the end of her life.

And that is why I am going to run the London Marathon, in memory of Helen Young and because I want to give back and say thank you.

Any money you can give will be a huge help to the hospice and will help push me across those 26.3 miles of pure hell.

Thanks again

Tom Green
