Story

On 23rd May 2026, I’ll be taking on the challenge of running the London to Brighton 100k Ultra Marathon in support of Taylor Made Dreams (the just giving page has linked the wrong London to Brighton). I’ve always wanted to fundraise for this incredible charity, but never quite knew how, until now. Recently I’ve taken up running, though nothing close to this kind of distance. When I signed up, the furthest I’d ever run was 15k, so I’ll need a lot of training to prepare for the 100k ahead!

For those who know me, you’ll know this cause is very close to my heart. Taylor was my step-brother, and in September 2011 he sadly lost his battle with cancer at just 15 years old. We were the same age and grew up side by side, playing sports, games, and spending countless hours together. We were so young when we met that it never really felt like we were step-brothers, he was simply my brother.

Taylor was diagnosed with cancer in 2008, and it was an incredibly difficult time for our family. He fought so bravely against the illness for four years, going through hundreds of hospital appointments, multiple operations, and even three months of intensive treatment in the USA. Despite his courage, the illness was incurable, and eventually Taylor was given just two years to live. During that time, Taylor was able to tick off some items from his own bucket list, creating memories we will always cherish.

In 2014, Taylor’s mum, Suzi, founded Taylor Made Dreams to help children with life-limiting illnesses fulfil their own unique wish lists, while also providing vital therapeutic and counselling support to their families. It’s an amazing charity, and it means so much that Taylor’s name continues to live on through the work it does.

The route begins in Richmond, crossing the North Downs to Turners Hill before continuing over the South Downs and finishing in Brighton. Along the way, I’ll face around 1,500 metres of elevation gain. A copy of the route can be found below.

I’ll be doing plenty of training over the next eight months, so if anyone fancies joining me for a run, just let me know! If you want to follow me on Strava, link is below.
