Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I was delighted to complete the 102 mile Cotswold Way last year inside 5 days as planned, and was very grateful for your support. Thanks to people's generosity I managed to surpass my fundraising target, raising over £2000 towards Operation Imprezza. Operation Imprezza is a UK charity based in South Devon that for the last 15 years has supported Imprezza Academy in Western Kenya through fundraising to enable children in poverty to receive a proper education.
Founded by Headteacher Catherine Omanyo in her early 20's in a Nairobi slum with 80 students, the school was destroyed in 2008 during the post-election violence causing Catherine and 35 orphans to flee to Western Kenya. There, having purchased six and a half acres of land, she began again and Imprezza Academy opened its doors in January 2011. There are now 320 students, most of them boarders, all benefiting from schooling in a safe and supportive environment (please have a look at the pictures in the gallery).
The need to raise monies to sustain this amazing institution is constant and never goes away. This year in May with the help of 5 friends, we aim to walk the challenging 23-mile Abbot's Way on Dartmoor. We aim to achieve this in one day, starting out from Buckfast Abbey early in the morning, and aiming to finish at the ruins of Tavistock Abbey by the evening. Others who would like to take part in some way are welcome to join us in Princetown in the early afternoon to walk the last 6 or 7 miles.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure, and all donations go directly to the charity. This year the target is £3000 with each team member aiming to secure £500 in sponsorship so that we can reach our goal. Please help if you can, and at least give us some words of encouragement. I will be posting updates on this page and also on Instagram at trekkertomo.
