Story

Thank you for visiting the fundraising page for the Scottish Police Benevolent Fund. The fund is dedicated to assisting police officers, support workers and their families during their times of need. Policing is vocational. It is a commitment to help others in their time of need and it can be both physically and mentally challenging. The many roles undertaken by civilian support staff, such as call handling and cells staff, can be equally as demanding and challenging. The charity operates solely on subscriptions and donations, without any government funding. Your generous donation will ensure that the fund can continue providing vital support to officers, support staff and their families, who are suffering mental illness, are injured, bereaved, disabled, or facing hardship.

I retired from the Police in 2008, following 30years service. I'm now aged 65 and have undertaken to hike the 230 mile and 43,000ft of climb, Cape Wrath Trail (plus), starting on April 18, 2024, to raise funds for this important charity.

So what's the plus?

In addition to hiking the UK's toughest trail, I'll be climbing a number of nearby Munro's (mountains over 3000ft), swimming in a few of the coldest lochans and rivers, summit camping, crossing several rivers, bad weather almost guaranteed, dodging adders and perhaps enjoying an ice cold waterfall shower. I'll be solo hiking most of the way, and hardest of all, carrying all my kit, tent, food and water, weighing approx.18-20kg up and down mountains every day. I'll be sending short video clips to update my progress. There may be humour.............if I meet anyone funny, and I'll throw in some poetry (mostly Rabbie Burns) to keep you amused.

My goal is to reach £1,000 in donations, but we can raise so much more for this important charity. Your contribution will make a real difference helping those who dedicate themselves to keeping us safe, when they themselves need it most. Please get behind this challenge and please donate. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Donating through JustGiving is secure and straightforward. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, your money will be sent directly to the charity, making it the most efficient way to contribute - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
