Solace is a charity which provides free counselling, psychotherapy and advocacy in the Yorkshire and Humber region to the survivors of persecution and exile, many of whom have been traumatised by torture, rape, the death or disappearance of loved ones and often combinations of all of these and other atrocities.

Story

Solace support people who are fleeing persecution.

many asylum seekers are destitute and struggle to buy what we all consider everyday essential items. This swim is to raise money for Solace's Client Emergency Fund, a pot of money for those 'one off' things that people are faced with all the time in their lives.....

This fund began when a local Quaker group donated a sum of money to Solace and it is used for needs where no other pot of money is available, or accessible. This fund has provided funds when a client has no money at all, sometimes for food before the application for benefits, or a sports item so someone can access an activity or most recently I was aware of a diabetic who couldn't keep their insulin cold, so Solace purchased a mini fridge which hugely protected the client's health.

It is such an amazing fund in an amazing organisation...... you will really change people's lives when change is near impossible to do for one's self.
