Despite a ferocious fight against a rare immune disorder, James passed away in 2016 aged 7. We honour James' memory through JJOG and our vision that no child should ever get left behind. Recent funds from the Jar have educated Kenyan orphans, assisted disabled UK youngsters and Ukrainian refugees.

Story

James was diagnosed with a rare, life threatening immune disorder when he was 5 years old. This required a bone marrow transplant and a long stay, largely in isolation, at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Despite putting up a huge battle , James passed away on 12 June 2016, aged just 7.

James loved life - he loved football, golf, lego and his cats. Most of all he loved people. He was kind and loving and this charity honours James' memory by helping as many other young people as we can - funding opportunities they would not otherwise have.

Over the past year we have been supporting girls in Uganda to enable them to continue their school education. The majority of girls in Uganda do not complete their secondary education, with many at risk of forced early marriage. James' Jar of Gifts initially supported 50 girls to continue their education - this included paying school fees, purchasing school uniforms, scholastic materials and period products. We also fund awareness sessions and mentorship to educate these young girls on modes of transmission of HIV, practical workshops to enable the manufacture and sale of products such as liquid soap, and other life skills and counselling sessions.

Our initial support proved so successful that we have recently extended our support to 74 girls in total, and we are looking to extend this even further in the coming months.

To raise funds we are walking 24 miles over a 24 hour period, with no sleep - hence the original name of '24 in 24'!. Although we expect many aching limbs, any funds you are able to donate to our cause will help us to put one foot in front of the other .... thank you so much for your support.
