Story
Thanks for visiting! I last ran the London Marathon (any marathon in fact!) as I approached my 40th birthday, in 2006. Back then my friends and family generously helped raise over £6k for a wonderful childrens hospice. 20 years later I figured its time to do it again, as I approach my 60th in 2026, this time raising money for Whizz Kidz, the brilliant UK young persons wheelchair charity. The difference between an NHS wheelchair and a 'fit for purpose' one made possible by you donating to Whizz Kidz is life changing.
I can't think of a better cause to celebrate my own good fortune in being active and mobile, something I've especially felt grateful for since overcoming cancer in recent years.
Its not just the Marathon I've set myself the challenge of in my 60th year; I'm rowing across Scotland in Sept 25 along the Caledonian Canal with friends (including a race across Loch Ness), undertaking a couple of half marathons, grinding out a Half Iron Man in Nov 25 (which I'm dreading and excited about in equal measure!) and riding a 108km cycle race. Then the London Marathon in April 2026! Through all these events I'll be gratefully thinking of your encouragement and donation to Whizz Kidz.
So, thank you for your support in helping to smash my target of £4,000! You’re supporting a wonderful cause.
Over 75,000 young people in the UK need to use a wheelchair to be mobile.
Unfortunately, they cannot access the equipment that meets their needs through local services. We're here for all of them.
Whizz Kidz are the UK’s leading charity supporting young wheelchair users up to 25 years old. They empower young wheelchair users with the equipment, support, and confidence-building experiences they need to take an active role in society. The Whizz Kidz goal is to create a movement for progress towards a more open and accessible world.
