This summer, let’s join Sport Relief and get the nation moving, bring people together and use that energy, that commonality, to raise funds and to showcase the power of community, and sport, to change lives.

Story

Last year, I celebrated my 60th birthday by taking on one of the biggest cycling challenges I'd ever attempted – riding through the Pyrenees. Crossing that finish line made me realise something: while I'm fortunate enough to be fit and healthy, I want to keep challenging myself, pushing my limits, and making every opportunity count.

This year, I'm taking on another incredible challenge to raise money for Sport Relief.

As part of H&B's Race Across the World, I'll be cycling the famous Coast to Coast (C2C) route, starting in Newhaven on the west coast and finishing in South Shields on the east coast. It's one of the UK's best-known long-distance cycling routes, covering around 140 miles of stunning but demanding terrain.

Most cyclists complete the route over three or four days. My challenge is to complete the entire distance in just two days.

That means long hours in the saddle, countless climbs, and some seriously tough hills – including climbs that stretch for up to five miles at a time. It will test my endurance, determination and resilience every step of the way.

I'm taking on this challenge because I believe that if you're lucky enough to have good health, it's important to make the most of it. Every challenge reminds me not to take that for granted, and if I can use my love of cycling to raise money that helps change other people's lives, then every mile and every climb will be worthwhile.

Sport Relief supports Sport for Change organisations that are operating at grassroots levels – giving communities access to the transformational power of sport. By sponsoring me, you'll not only help motivate me through those long climbs and sore legs, but you'll also be making a real difference to people who need it most.

Thank you so much for your support. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help make this challenge even more meaningful.
