Story
My dad lived with dementia for over 20 years, from the early stages through to losing his grip on reality. Throughout that time, I was incredibly lucky that he continued to recognise my children and me, and for that I will always be grateful. I know not everyone is afforded this “luxury” when this cruel disease takes over, which is why we are running for Dementia UK—to help raise funds and support the vital work they do.
Running is not something Cora and I have ever done… we are not built for it, and no matter how hard we try, even a jog feels debilitating 🫣. But in my dad’s final moments, although he was alone, I know he would have been scared and uncomfortable. So for him, we’re putting ourselves in that position—we’re terrified, and every time we lace up our trainers, we feel that discomfort. But it is nothing compared to what my dad went through.
If you can spare anything at all to support us and Dementia UK, we would be eternally grateful—as would the families who benefit from this incredible charity.
