Story
Tracey and Lil will be walking East Devon Way in a day on the 12th October 2024 to raise money for The Miscarriage Association, who provide support to those affected by miscarriage, molar pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy.
We will walk between Exmouth and Lyme Regis during baby loss awareness week following the East Devon Way route which is approximately 40 miles / 60km. Some think we are mad undertaking this challenge, and we are already thinking ‘what have we agreed to’ walking the equivalent of 1 ½ marathons in a day, but we are both up for the challenge!
The charity is close to our hearts. Tracey and Paul (Lil’s brother) have experienced early baby loss themselves, having suffered an ectopic pregnancy and four further miscarriages, they know how important it is to receive the right support and after care.
Early baby loss can have a significant impact on mothers and their partners and for some this can result in anxiety and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. It can be a traumatic and lonely experience and the work the Miscarriage Association carry out helps to support mothers and their partners during a difficult time.
We are walking in memory of all the babies taken too soon. It is so important to keep talking about miscarriage and the trauma suffered by mothers and their partners after early baby loss, to help normalise conversations around this subject, and to help those who have suffered a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or molar pregnancy to feel less alone.
One issue that needs to be tackled is the formal recording of miscarriage to understand the true scale across the UK in order to provide better support for those who have experienced early baby loss.
Tommys are campaigning for Government to commit to record all miscarriages and for Government to ‘recognise the devastating impact baby loss has on families and commit to providing the right care. It’s only when counting miscarriage becomes a priority that we can get parents the research and support they desperately need, and drive change further, and faster.’
Please sign this petition to show your support and show the Government that baby loss must be counted: (N.B. Possible Trigger - This link shows a Baby Scan and Booties) https://actions.tommys.org/a/record-of-baby-loss.
Thank you for taking the time to read our justgiving page. Wish us luck! We would say we do not need it but we definitely do, as walking 1 ½ marathons in a day is a daunting thought, so if you are able to provide a small donation in support and help the Miscarriage Association continue their great work it would be much appreciated.
