Story
On February 13th 2026, little did I know that my life was about to change forever and I was about to embark on the hardest. 7 weeks of my life. I took my mum into A&E for test, expecting a long wait before being sent home turned into something far worse, Mum was admitted and soon we were having conversations with the consultants of possible aggressive bladder cancer, after weeks of tests we took Mum home to spend her days in her new Bungalow with family around her, with the help of my brother we were able to keep mum at home for another 2 weeks with 24 hr round the clock care between myself of myself and my brother, mum was very poorly and the effects of the cancer was beginning to take it toll on Mum and we realised that mum needed specialist care and we needed to spend quality time with mum rather than being her carers. The day I got the call from Loros to say there was a bed available I’m not afraid to say I broke down, emotions of relief that mum would get the care and medications she needed when she needed it and fear i@of the unknown.
Loros welcomed Mum like an old Friend, she was soon settled and spent a further 10 days before passing g away so peacefully. We cannot thank everyone there for their kindness and care for all of us, the endless hugs, chats, support, laughs, cups of tea but most of all giving us time to spend being mum and daughter rather than carer, those day were priceless and I will be eternally grateful as I know my Mum would be. We know how lucky Mum was to get a bed in Loros. So this is why, I, one of my sons, are taking on the Snowden at night Challenge, as a way of thanking Loros for everyone and more. IF my mum can fight this awful disease with such Grace then I can do this. Anything you can give however small matters. Thank you
Beginning in the town of Llanberis, in the heart of Eryri National Park, I’ll take on this unforgettable challenge alongside fellow LOROS supporters, trekking to the summit of Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) — at night.
Standing at 1,085 metres, Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales — and under the cover of darkness, it becomes an even greater test of my endurance, determination and teamwork. Guided by the beam of my headtorch and the encouragement of those around me, I’ll push myself physically and mentally to reach the summit beneath the star-filled skies.
Taking on the Snowdon at Night challenge is my opportunity to conquer this magnificent peak in a truly unique and unforgettable way. I’ll trek alongside fellow fundraisers united for LOROS Hospice, supported every step of the way by experienced mountain leaders. It’s a powerful challenge, an incredible experience — a chance to make every step count for local families supported by LOROS.
