Lands End to John OGroats

We are the only support group in Northern Ireland raising awareness of Functional Neurological Disorder which is a chronic illness and has no specific pathway for treatment. Our aim is to provide drop-ins, counselling and a dedicated outreach worker, and to raise awareness within the medical profession.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Over the last 8 years my life and that of my family have been turned upside down. From being a totally independent staff nurse, I ran round after Luke and helped out at school and performing in Batley G&S to being fully reliant on Ade, Luke and that of my family. As many of you know I am unable to exercise due to requiring a wheelchair when Im outdoors and only taking a few steps indoors using my crutches and leg splint. However, there is no keeping me down. This challenge will be performed over the next 12 months using my indoor bicycle ( using my goodleg and muscle memory on my bad leg)and swimming with my best friend. The charity I am raising money for is one close to my heart as it is one of the crippling illnesses I suffer from.

FND or Functional Neurological Disorder is a very complicated illness. It is a group of Neurological symptoms which can not be explained that cause Functional symptoms ie loss of speech and loss of use in my arm...symptoms of a stroke but on the CT scan there is no physical sign however the symptoms are very real. It has been described to me as someone unplugging a computer and plugging all the wires back in the wrong place. All the bits are there but the messages are not getting through. We are fighting lack of education particularly in A&E staff. The minute FND is mentioned we are told we are making it up. This is where further research needs to be done as to what causes FND and help educate people about it.

Please help me raise money for this little known about disease. I will regularly post updates on how it is going.
