Story

My Dad passed away in 2020 having been supported by Pendleside Hospice, little did I appreciate how much the hospice would become a critical life line for mum following a stage 4 Breast Cancer diagnosis in Jan 2024.

When I say mum, they have supported me too! When mum was admitted to the hospice in March things were dreadful! So many things going on with mum and she needed specialist care. Having looked after mum on a 24/7 basis I was really struggling. The hospice team cared for mum and helped stabilise her so she could return home having arranged a full care package and she still remains under the hospice at home programme.

It’s hard to explain! The hospice team are truly wonderful helping us in so many ways as we navigate our way through Mum’s journey.

While Mum and I have some way to go on her journey, I am thankful I am not raising money in memory of mum. I am still able to cherish my time with mum as difficult as it is to see the impact this nasty disease has on a loved one. The hospice continue supporting from arranging equipment to Mum’s highlight of the week, her Day Care every Monday, she absolutely loves it!

So , I know I am last minute to start this page I couldn't plan as I am was afraid of setting expectations I wouldn’t be able to meet as I cannot plan with Mum’s rollercoaster of pain and loosing mobility rapidly. So here I am ! No preparation not even a bike ride in the last 12 months setting my 1st justgiving page the night before the bike challenge.

Help fund the future, showing your support by sponsoring me taking part in the Mountain Bike Challenge on Sunday 9th June.

Pendleside exists to promote and enhance quality of life for people with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers; by delivering specialist and holistic palliative care, which addresses their individually assessed physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs.

Pendleside currently costs £5.5 million per year to run and only receives around 22% funding, therefore heavily relies on charitable donations and sponsorship raised by fantastic supporters.
