Story
In 2027, I will be taking on the London Marathon in support of Heart Research UK.
Heart disease has had a huge impact on my family. My dad suffered 2 heart attacks in 2014 and has since gone on to have another more a couple of years ago. He lives with unstable angina, which often presents with heart attack–like symptoms and can result in frequent ambulance callouts. As a family, we live with the constant worry of not knowing when the next episode will happen, or how much his heart can take as well as watching someone you love in so much pain and being absolutely helpless.
I will be forever grateful that Dad broke the pattern and has survived his heart attacks, but the condition has taken a toll on his wellbeing, and the ongoing fear of “what if” has affected his day-to-day life and family moments.
Sadly, just one week after my dad’s first heart attack, my grandfather sadly died from a heart attack, bringing home how devastating heart disease can be for families.
Because of my family history, I am now on preventative medication myself, and it has made me increasingly aware of the importance of heart health and early awareness.
I am running to raise funds for Heart Research UK in the hope that through research and greater awareness around prevention, fewer families will have to go through the same heartbreak and uncertainty we have experienced.
This will be my first ever marathon, and the fact it is the London Marathon makes it even more special and has made me even more determined to take on the challenge.
Every donation will make a real difference. Thank you so much for your support.
