Gabriel & Nanny’s 5K Walk for Diabetes UK 💙

On Saturday 17th October, my amazing 7-year-old grandson Gabriel and I will be taking on a 5K sponsored walk to raise money for Diabetes UK.

This is an annual walk where we’ll be joined by lots of other people who are all walking for the same cause — parents, grandparents, families and friends whose lives have been touched by Type 1 Diabetes. Everyone has their own story and their own reason for walking, but we’ll all be taking those steps together to help make a difference. 💙

For our family, that reason is Gabriel.

Since his diagnosis, Type 1 Diabetes has become part of everyday life — blood glucose levels, insulin, carb counting, alarms, pumps, sensors and all the decisions that come with managing a condition that never takes a day off.

But Gabriel just gets on with being Gabriel. He’s funny, energetic and determined, and I’m incredibly proud that he’s going to walk the whole 5K alongside me — quite a distance for those little seven-year-old legs! 🥰👟

We’re raising money for Diabetes UK to support their work and vital research, including research into better treatments and technology for people living with diabetes. Having seen first-hand the difference that technology such as glucose sensors and insulin pumps can make to a child’s life, this is something that means a great deal to us.

Every pound raised can help towards a better future for children like Gabriel and everyone living with diabetes — and hopefully, one day, a future where Type 1 Diabetes can be prevented, treated even more effectively, or ultimately cured. 💙
