Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The challenge: Walk 60 miles before my 60th birthday. I'm including walks to town, Tesco and dog walking with a friend. Please join me for a walk and maybe a coffee, bring your dog, children, friends and feel free to suggest new routes and places to walk.
Why? To raise money for young carers and to help me build confidence and reduce my social anxiety.
When? From January 1st to March 31st.
I am a former carer, I looked after my dad during covid and had support from local organisations, in particular carers in Bedfordshire. Being a carer affected my mental health and general wellbeing and I'm still struggling 3 years later. After my dad passed away I started volunteering with carers in Bedfordshire, I am still helping with activities and events with the young carers.
I chose this challenge to help me get out and about again and to support children and young people who help care for someone at home. These youngsters are amazing, they are resilient and positive and they deserve support and rewards for all their hard work.
I've attended some amazing events over the last 3 years, from the Carer hubs that provide craft activities, games and supportive adults avaliable for a chat and other carers who are in the same position. To forest school in the summer holidays, zoo trips and even breakfast with Santa. I think one of my favourite activities was the Rock Steady music session. All of the children, aged from 4 to 16 really enjoyed the day. They learned to play musical instruments and formed a band while learning and playing 2 songs. All of these events allow the young people to get together, have a break from their caring roles and to learn new skills and have fun.
These events cost a lot of money to arrange. This is where my challenge will help! Please donate if you can and share my page as much as possible.
Thank you ❤️
