Story

I’ve been wanting to run the London Marathon for a long time. I remember as a schoolgirl watching the early London Marathons on television and thinking that one day I'd like to run it.

After over a decade of ‘’sorry, not this time’’ from the London Marathon main ballot I was starting to think I would never get to run this iconic race. Then just before Christmas 2024 I was told that one of our committee members had entered QE2 Activity Centre into the London Marathon small charities ballot and if we got a place, it would be mine.

In early January 2025 the email arrived with the fantastic news that we had won a charity place. I was over the moon with excitment. I’m very lucky to be given this opportunity to run for QE2 Activity Centre and as a keen club runner I am so thankful for this possible once in a life time experience.

QE2 Activity Centre provides activity sessions and day services for people of all ages with additional needs including learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and sensory impairment. Over the course of more than forty years QE2 Activity Centre has established itself as one of the UK’s leading providers of activity opportunities for people with disabilities.

I have had the most wonderful time working at QE2 Activity Centre for the last ten years. The centre is a really special place where we offer a wide range of activities, no two days are the same! Our aim is to help each member to fulfil their potential and become more independent. We aim our sights high and encourage individuals to try new challenges and develop skills in a safe, managed, creative environment. We help our members to develop skills to live independently and contribute to their community.

I love my job, the people I work with and those I help every day. I couldn’t think of a better charity to run the London Marathon for. Over the future months I plan to train well and fundraise with some fun events for everyone to enjoy. I hope to raise £2600, that’s £100 a mile, for some accessible raised beds and new equipment for the centre. Thank you for your support with my fundraising.

I can’t wait until the 26th April 2026!
