I have been a Trustee for Hope for Hedgehogs from the very beginning in 2020.

Since those early days, I have been immensely proud to see how we have evolved into a brilliant charity, growing bigger year on year. Our volunteers are simply amazing, with many garnering exceptional clinical skills due to the high level training and nurturing from our founder and chief, Sandra Lowe.

Our goal is to rescue, rehabilitate and release sick and injured hedgehogs throughout Gateshead, Newcastle and the surrounding areas.

Hedgehogs have it very tough.

From a thriving 35 - 50 million hedgehogs in the 1950s, there are now fewer than a million left in the UK, and they are now on the Red list - Vulnerable to Extinction.

Our Charity is doing everything it can to stop the numbers from dwindling further. Apart from the direct assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and release of the hogs in our care, we also strive to be a vector for change.

From delivering talks in schools and in the community, to engaging in hedgehog latest research through British Hedgehog Preservation Society, we aim to help hedgehogs not just survive, but to thrive once more.

To help us in our quest, I am once again running in the Great North Run on 13th September to raise essential funds.

Any donations received, will enable us to reach out to more community groups, educating people about hog welfare, all whilst ensuring the hedgehogs in our care receive the very best treatment they so deserve.
