Story
In November 2024, we will be trekking for 12 days to Everest Base Camp to an altitude of 5,364 m (17,598 ft) above sea level. to raise money for this wonderful charity.
Hello everyone, I love a challenge and love Labradors having had over 10 in our lives! In November this year 3 of us have decided to tackle the Everest Base Camp Trek which involves a 12 day hike up Mount Everest to the Base Camp. For those of you who don’t know me, I am not the fittest and like my food, but between now and November 11, I have been thinking hard about putting in the hard work to ensure I am fitter and ready for this mammoth challenge. Of the other 2 trekkers, one is an Army Major fit as a butchers dog and the other has a bad back! I thought it would be a good idea to raise some money for a great charity close to my heart at the same time.
I first met Wendy and Edward a few years ago in Scotland when she was raising money for the Team Edward charity riding her bike in the rain, while Edward was living the dream in the support van!
We lost 2 labs in just over 2 months earlier this year, Sam was 15 years 7 months and Martha was very sudden was 14, the cards of sympathy from Team Edward were much appreciated.
We have helped to raise money before by providing gifts for the Christmas raffles over the years and want to continue raising money. We had a rescue lab – Lola, from them 8 years ago and we are forever grateful (most of the time)!
We will be hiking in the shadow of the world's highest mountain on the climb to the iconic Everest Base Camp. The adventure begins in vibrant and charming Kathmandu before setting off into the heart of the Nepal Himalaya across spectacular gorges, suspense bridges and past majestic peaks in magical landscapes on this epic route, which should be on the bucket list of every adventurer.
This is a multi-day trek led by an experienced guide. Tough, but truly rewarding! In November the weather is dry but very cold -15 to -20c at night, the Tea houses that we stay in are basic with little hot water for washing, the main challenge will be the altitude sickness it’s hard to explain but imagine walking up your stairs 200 times with 4 covid masks on, people say your whole body is screaming for oxygen and you walk like a snail!
The magnitude of this endeavour cannot be understated, as it will test our, well mine, physical and mental strength to the very core. But our unwavering mission transcends personal achievements and aspires to raise Funds for Team Edward.
