Story

We are riding 100 miles, on a Triple Tandem bike to raise money for the amazing people at MacMillian Cancer support.

Our motley crew of three include my brother Mark, Pete Evia-Rhodes, and me, Michael.

Mark and I are two of three brothers who unfortunately lost our mother to bowel cancer when we were still young.

The MacMillian nurses were incredible in those final months, providing Maggie (mum, or “mums” as we called her) care, hope, laughter and light. They enabled her to be at home with us in her last few months, which meant the world to us. Our MacMillan nurses became part of our family.

We will forever be grateful to you MacMillan, and now it's our time to do something in return, which, with help from our beautiful friends and family, will continue to make a difference to other families.

Mums always had a beautiful smile, a great sense of humour and an even bigger heart. She loved animals, especially dogs - she would always try to rescue stray dogs, including our beloved dog Angel, who she found shivering and abandoned behind a car tyre - she just wanted to help any being in need of assistance.

This is what MacMillan is all about. ❤️ They help those in need when it is needed the most. We will ride this 100 miles to not only remember our lost loved ones, but to support McMillan’s in their continued help to all that need it.❤️

Our choice of MacMillian was the one we all wanted, and it's our way of saying thank you for the love and kindness they showed my family and Pete’s family including the incredible care for his grandpa and auntie-in-law Marina. In total they’ve cared for more than 2.4 million, and will continue to help more with your support.

Thank you so much for clicking on the link in the first place, let alone reading this piece about my mum, and thinking of donating. We know money is tough to come by of late but if we can get just a few pounds from everyone who's reached this point, we'll hit our target. A fundraising target we'll be extremely proud of.

Are we ready you ask......? Well, I've only ever ridden 50 miles. Mark’s hip isn't quite working and neither of us have ridden for a few months. And although no-one has actually ridden a triple tandem before, we have our lost loved ones in our heart, MacMillan on our tops, and the immensely capable Pete at the back! We WILL complete this... Just not sure how the last 30 miles or so will feel.

Thank you for supporting our fundraising attempt. With your support and our own Angel watching over us, we'll get through the pain barrier and complete this. We know we will. ❤️

We got in touch with Guiness World Records to see what could make this a world record. They don't accept fancy dress as a worthy reason, so looks like we're going for the fastest time for 100 miles then!

Macmillan, in a nutshell, gives people with cancer everything they need. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes. But without your help, Macmillan can’t support everyone who needs them.
