Story
Sri Lanka is going through an extremely difficult time. Cyclone Ditwah has passed, but the impact is still unfolding. Many families are living with damaged homes, blocked roads and limited access to basic needs. Several parts of the country are still affected, and people are trying to cope with what they have left.
Serendip works throughout the year, from the ground, supporting families in the north and in the hill country to rebuild their lives with dignity. Step by step, we have been helping these communities strengthen themselves. The recent cyclone and flooding have pushed many of them back, and the progress we were slowly building has been shaken. Even so, our team will continue to stand with them and do what we can in the days ahead.
Many families across different districts have had to leave their homes because the conditions are still unsafe, and they are afraid to return. Days of heavy rain have weakened the soil, and the risk of mudslides, falling rocks and further damage remains high in several places. People have moved into temporary accommodation, including schools, temples, tea factories and other common buildings, where they stay until it is safe to go back.
Our volunteers and staff are able to travel, and they have already started reaching more families as requests for help continue to come in. We are working through these requests carefully so that support reaches the people who need it most.
This appeal is helping us provide emergency support, and we are grateful to everyone who has already contributed. The funds received are being used carefully and responsibly to provide dry food, warm clothes, bedding and other basic items for families who need immediate help.
We will continue this work in the weeks ahead, for as long as we can and for as long as our resources allow.
Thank you for standing with us during this difficult time. It means a lot for Serendip and for the people we help.
