Story

As many of you know my big bro, the one the only Bertie Bear, lives with the wonderful people over at Scott's Project Trust. A fantastic charity that houses and looks after those with special needs.

Scotts, based near Tonbridge in Kent, supports adults with learning disabilities to strive to reach their aspirations and make choices about how they want to live their lives through three interlinked services.

Initially set up by Jill and Denis Scott, the Scotts Project Trust has been in existence for over 25 years, providing an invaluable service for all those who come here.

Their income from fees, mostly from local authorities, only covers a basic level of service. To maintain the quality of the great work they do, and to expand it to meet the needs of more people with a learning disability, they must raise funds.

The funds they raise help to maintain essential facilities, for example refurbishing kitchens and bathrooms to ensure they meet the needs of residents.

To give an idea of how much needs raising each year for General maintenance for all buildings and gardens costs us approximately £50,000 each year, for which funds need to be raised. Further funding then needs to raised on top of that for refurbishments.

They are currently fundraising for the refurbishment of our Barn Garden. This area of their Development Centre, where day services take place, consisting of a small converted barn which currently houses a cafe, training kitchen and life skills with a garden area.

They plan to refurbish the day services Barn Garden area with the following:

> accessible space

> new greenhouse

> an accessible covered session space

> drainage for the lawn area

> accessible planters and planting for adults to enjoy gardening from a wheelchair

> relevant tools and teaching aids
