Brain Tumour Research is the leading voice of the brain tumour community and focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. We are campaigning to increase the national investment in research to £35 million per year and funding sustainable Centres of Excellence across the UK.

Story

As part of our neuroscience conference, we are proud to support Brain Tumour Research UK, raising funds to address one of the most neglected areas of cancer research. Brain tumours receive just 1.37% of national cancer research funding, despite being the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children and adults under 40. Survival rates remain shockingly low—only 12% of patients survive beyond five years, compared to over 70% for breast cancer. Without increased investment, it could take 100 years to catch up with advancements in other cancers.

Beyond the medical impact, a brain tumour diagnosis comes with severe financial consequences. Patients face an average annual financial loss of £14,783, more than double that of other cancers, due to treatment-related costs, loss of income, and necessary home modifications. Many also lose their independence by being forced to surrender their driving licenses, further exacerbating the burden on families.

We believe that increased funding for research is essential to improving outcomes. By supporting this fundraiser, you are directly contributing to groundbreaking research that can lead to earlier diagnoses, better treatments, and ultimately, a cure. A portion of our conference ticket proceeds will go to Brain Tumour Research UK, and we encourage all attendees to contribute to our donation fund. Together, we can drive change and bring hope to those affected by this devastating disease.
