Story
For more than 30 years, Troy Peden has helped people find their way to the world. He started as the first study abroad coordinator at two different universities, and in 1997 he co-founded GoAbroad.com, taking the printed program catalog online before most organizations had websites and before Google existed. Millions of travelers have since studied, volunteered, interned, and taught abroad through programs they discovered because of what he built.
But anyone who knows Troy knows his heart has always been closest to the ground. He went to Ukraine when the war began. He stayed in the Philippines after the typhoon and worked through unimaginable conditions. He has built homes and schools, taught refugee children, and volunteered with street children in corners of the globe most people never see. His real passion is the small, grassroots efforts: a handful of committed locals changing their community from the inside, often before anyone outside has heard of them.
As Troy retires, we're honoring him in the way that fits him best. The Troy Peden Legacy Fund, established through the GoAbroad Foundation, will support exactly the kind of projects he seeks out: ones that create opportunity, bring people together, strengthen communities, protect places worth protecting, and give someone a chance they might otherwise never have had.
If GoAbroad played a part in your journey, whether it helped you find a program, start a career, or grow an organization, this is a chance to pass that forward. Every gift, of any size, will go toward meaningful projects around the world and carry Troy's work into its next chapter.
Thank you for helping his legacy continue through the people and places it reaches.
